It now showed under "Network adapters" in Device Manager (previously it was just in "other devices"), however it always returned an error code at the end of driver installation saying "the device could not be turned on". The closest I got was choosing the "install driver from a list on my computer", which seemed to install the driver fine. This didn't work as it always came up with "cannot find driver online". Next I tried deleting the device from Device Manager, plugging it in and letting windows search for the drivers online. The first method I tried was to install it using the drivers from their website, however the driver installer always comes up with "cannot locate adapter" after asking to plug the adapter in. Their website has drivers which supposedly work with Windows 10 but they haven't. The model in question is the Netgear WNA3100. I got a new pc with windows 10 yesterday and spent the better part of the entire day trying to make it work, to no success. So i've been using my Netgear wifi adapter with windows 8 perfectly fine for ages.
